In the Chinese calendar, every day carries its own elemental charge, written as a pair of characters called the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch (干支 Gān Zhī). Your Day Master (日主 Rì Zhǔ) — the stem of your birth day — is your personal baseline. When we set the day's energy beside your Day Master, you get a small, playful reading of how the day might meet you.

The daily reading is a taste. Your full Four Pillars of Destiny chart explains the "why" behind your energy — and a complete 13-chapter reading shows how it plays out across career, love, wealth, and health.
A newspaper horoscope gives the same paragraph to roughly one twelfth of the world. This page does something narrower: it takes today's Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch, sets them against your Day Master, and describes the relationship between the two.
Every day has its own stem-and-branch pair, from the continuous sixty-term cycle that has run unbroken through the Chinese calendar for over two thousand years. The pair is a designation, not a mood — and it is the same for everyone.
What changes from person to person is how the day interacts with your chart. The Day Master — the stem of your birth day — is the fixed centre against which that relationship is measured.
Today's stem stands to your Day Master as peer, output, wealth, officer or resource. Whichever it is tells you which register the day is naturally tuned to.
Once computed the reading is stored in your browser and does not change on reload. A daily reading that shifts every refresh is not a reading — it is a generator.
Same phase as you. Energising, competitive — good for pushing your own projects, less good for negotiating.
What you produce. Favourable for writing, presenting, teaching, making things visible.
What you can command. Favourable for transactions, asking, closing, and anything with a number attached.
Structure and obligation. Favourable for deadlines, formal commitments and administrative tasks; heavier on the nerves.
What restores you. Favourable for study, planning, rest, receiving help; less favourable for confrontation.
Whichever of the five today holds, the reading tells you which register the day is naturally tuned to. That is the whole mechanism. It is closer to a weather report for scheduling than to a fortune.
It is not a zodiac horoscope. Your zodiac animal does not enter the calculation at all — the day is read against your Day Master, which comes from your birth day, not your birth year.
It is also not a prediction of events. A daily reading cannot know that a client will cancel or that a letter will arrive. Two people with opposite Day Masters receive opposite readings for the same date, which is a useful sanity check on any claim that the day itself is lucky or unlucky in the abstract.
The tradition behind it is old: the same sixty-term sequence governed the almanacs Chinese households used for centuries to choose dates for weddings, moves and openings. Those almanacs marked each day with dozens of indicators. We deliberately do not reproduce that apparatus — much of it rests on layers of rules we cannot verify, and presenting an unverifiable "lucky direction" as fact would be dishonest. What remains here is the part that is genuinely calculable.
No. If you have created a Chart Profile on the My Chart hub, this page reads from it automatically. Without a profile, the tool asks for birth data once.
Yes. The Day Master comes from the day pillar, which does not depend on the hour. The personal layer is slightly less precise, but the core reading is unaffected.
Because they share a Day Master. Differences appear when birth dates differ, or when the hour pillar feeds into the personal layer.
Traditional practice varies: some schools begin the new day at midnight, others at 23:00, the start of the 子 hour. MingPath uses the standard convention of the calendar library and states it rather than hiding it.
The current version reads today only. Because the cycle is deterministic, extending to other dates is arithmetic rather than divination — it is simply not exposed in the interface yet.
No. Think of it as a one-line summary of a much longer document. The full reading covers the Ten Gods pattern, the Da Yun cycles and the life-area sections in depth.
